I Can’t Believe it is National Cheeseburger Day!

by Mary Spearman

Who doesn’t love a good cheeseburger? I do! Everyone has their favorite places to go eat a good cheeseburger, but to me there is not a substitution for a good, homemade grilled burger complete with all the fixings. Now grilling a burger might be a challenge for some, and granted, everyone loves to eat their burger done to their specifications, but over the years, I have gotten a little creative with my burgers. Keep reading and maybe you will find some ideas to make National Cheeseburger Day something you can celebrate.

One of my favorite things to do, is to grill my burger, while I saute’ a few sweet onions and sliced mushrooms. When my burger is medium well, my preferred way to prepare a burger, I will top that sucker with some munster or swiss cheese, sometimes both, and then layer on those onions and mushrooms. I love to use a potato or brioche bun when I fix my burger. Topping my burger with steak sauce and mayo to create that pop of zest in my mouth as I eat. There is nothing like my mushroom and onion cheeseburger.

Another gourmet spin on a good burger is to create a Tex-Mex Burger using a few key ingredients. First, I like to season the meat, just a little, with some onion flakes, salt and pepper. Then after the burger cooks, I love to top it with colby jack cheese and salsa of my choosing. I usually serve my Tex-Mex burger with a little sour cream on the side and some jalapino peppers. This burger is sure to please those daring folks who like a little spice on their burger.

Finally, I guess the All American Burger with a Spin is my go to. It is simple, but tasty. The only extra that I might add is some Palmetto Cheese. Just grill your burger to your liking, add American Cheese, go ahead, put two slices, after all it is National Cheeseburger Day! Then you can top it off with your favorite condiments, mine is Dukes Mayo, Yellow Mustard and Ketsup, top it off with Lettice and tomatoes and you are ready to dive in.

So get to grilling, I bet you can come up with your own combination for National Cheeseburger Day! Enjoy!
