Friends and Fiction had an interesting guest on their pod or video cast this week. The four well known authors interview new and seasoned authors alike and preview worthy reads. This week while listening, the Author of There is No Coming Back From This, Ann Garvin, was interviewed. Her quick wit and personality made me stop what I was working on to listen. Garvin has a PHD in Psychology and she set out to write about how women are the caregivers who don’t always put themselves first, like the main character in the book. Garvin tells a story while addressing a need among women today. On her website her biography states,
“She writes about people who do too much in a world that asks too much from them.”
That sentence describes her main character. Much can be learned from fiction. Readers who struggle with doing too much will relate to the internal struggles of Poppy Lively, the main character. Poppy Lively is just as her name hints, lively and energetic. Poppy has survived losing her mother at a young age, and
In this contemporary story the reader will find surprising romance, a little Hollywood history and glamor, a surprise twist and it is a real page turner! Garvin puts the reader into the behind the scenes world of Universal Studios in Hollywood. The main character is dealing with the struggles of being a mother, while she remembers the mother that she lost to mental illness. Poppy accepts a job from an old friend on a movie set where anything that can go wrong, does. Several themes can be found in the story, which makes it a deeper read. At the heart, you will find a quick witted story about life and hardships and how it is possible to pick yourself up and change in the face of hardships. I recommend this uplifting story and would give it at least 5 stars. Enjoy your read!
